Nine intrepid, if in some cases inexperienced, cyclists pedaled from Higham Cricket Ground to Hornsea, via the Transpennine Way, to give a kick start to the Higham Cricket Club Pavilion Fund. The cricket club are looking to replace the current 80ish year old wooden changing facilities with a large brick built structure which would be available for use not only by the cricket club but by the wider community. Kevin 'Skully' Holmes, Mike Dixon, Dan Bamforth, Paul Wroe, Kevin Bamforth, Danny Andrews, Ryan Tremble, Luke Woodhouse and Paul Altree, along with 'back up driver' Jez Wroe braved warm sunshine and pouring rain to complete the 120 mile trek over two days last weekend. It is hoped that the ride will raise around £1000, giving the pavilion fund an excellent start. I am reliably informed that the whole trip totalled 118.4 miles, took 10 hours and 38 minutes to complete and the groups average speed was 11.4 miles per hour and, despite a couple of mear misses, everyone came back reletively unscathed.
