The Barnsley League side have won the Division 3 best team performance award for their thrilling 2 wicket victory over the visiting Conisbrough side.

Congratulations to Steve Bamforth and Tom Broadhead.
Steve has won the Huddersfield Central Cricket League batting average for Section D and also the H Whittaker Trophy for the highest individual score of the season, or possibly any season, with his 233.
Tom has been confirmed as the winner of the Under 13 bowling average in the Barnsley Junior Cricket Association.

Congratulations are in order as Mike Dixon (Trig) has announced his engagement to girlfriend Kelly. Trig romantically popped the question on a recent holiday and Kelly accepted, the couple plan to get married in late 2009. Expect a number of stag nights between now and then.

A meeting will be held in the Engineers Arms on Wednesday 24th September to discuss the work required to push the club forward through the winter months and prepare for the 2009 season. Congratulations and Danny and Jan Andrews on the birth of their daughter. Emilia Grace, pictured here signalling a six, was born on Friday 29th August and weighed in at a healthy 8lb 4oz and both mother and daughter are doing fine.
Danny tells me Emilia Grace is already booked in as Higham's first female all rounder and 1st teamer, wonder in Jan will have something to say about that!!!!!!

The ARROW Huddersfield Central Cricket League are looking at whether Steve Bamforths extraordinary knock of 233 is the highest individual score in the leagues history, the thought is that the previous highest score was 213. News of the outcome will be included as soon as it is available.

Kilnhurst have requested that the fixtures at Kilnhurst on Sunday 20th July and at Higham on Sunday 17th August 2008 be reversed so the game on Sunday will now be played at Higham.

Upper Haugh have withdrawn from the KEEGAN SPORTS Barnsley and District Cricket League so the games at Upper Haugh on Sunday 22nd June and at Higham on Sunday 24th August have been cancelled.

Higham narrowly lost by just 2 runs in the 1st round of the 20/20 knockout at Green Moor. Details to follow.

The Armitage Cup game between the Higham and Silkstone Under 15 sides will take place at Silkstone on Friday 6th June 2008 with a 6pm start.

The ARROW Huddersfield Central Cricket League 20/20 Knockout fixture between Higham and Green Moor will be held on Monday 2nd June 2008 at Green Moor with a 6pm(ish) start.

Due to the Manchester United v Chelsea European Cup Final on Wednesday 21st May the selection meeting will take place on Tuesday 20th May at Higham starting at 7.30pm, the next full club meeting will therefore take place on Wednesday 28th May.

Dan Bamforth has secured a £250 grant from the Barnsley Building Society, this to assist the junior section. Thanks to Dan for his continued hard work on behald of the cricket club in general and the junior section in particular.

The cancelled Huddersfield Central League program scheduled for Sunday 20th April will now be played on Sunday 21st September a week after the official end of the 2008 season.

The under 11 fixture at home to Wath upon Dearne has been cancelled due to the weather conditions.

The Huddersfield Central Cricket League Management Board have decided, quite rightly, to postpone the first round of league fixtures due to be played on Sunday 20th April. A decision has yet to be made as to whether the games will be rearranged or if two rain oints will be awarded to each club.

Ian Lake and Jez Wroe have attended a child protection workshop and will share the important role of club Child Welfare Officer. The workshop raised a number of issues which need to be addressed by the club and these will be discussed at the club meeting on Wednesday 2nd April.

After discussion at yesterdays meeting the days of the under 11 home fixtures has been altered from Monday evenings to Sunday mornings with a 10am start.

We have received confirmation that the club has been successful in acquiring a grant of £3570 from the Community Support Fund. Thanks must go to Tracey Chambers who had a race against time to provide a new application before Christmas as the 2007 grant was rejected. Over the past few years the club has received a number of grants and we are currently investigating various funding avenues for future projects.

Congratulations to Mark Beevers on scoring his first senior goal for Sheffield Wednesday, 'Freddie' is enjoying a run of games in the Owls 1st team and is winning rave reviews for his performances.

Four Higham Cricket Club members have today started the ECB Level 1 coaching course. Paul Wroe, Paul Broadhead, Dan Bamforth and Luke Woodhouse will travel to Newsome College in Huddersfield for the next three Sundays to complete the course and also the 1st aid and child welfare awareness sections. The charges for the course have been met through grant funding and the participation of the four club members can only strengthen the junior section.
